One of the most spectacular ranch sites in California lies in a large hidden valley, just below the Palomar Observatory. This amazing 117 acre property is completely fenced, totally private and easily accessible by an enchanting country road. Upon entering the estate, the southern portion is forested with tall pine, oaks and a few picturesque boulders.

The ranch setting has the feel of Colorado and Montana with meadows, mountains and forests and is home to many species of birds including a family of Golden Eagles. Numerous deer, quail and occasional turkeys also frequent the land.

Decades ago, gold was discovered here and mined for a few years. The miners traveled the same mountain road in the photo on the left, and hiked up the hill to work their claim dreaming of striking it rich.
The mine is abandoned now but the mystique remains.

To the north lies a large meadow and building sites for barns and homes. There is abundant ground water and springs that keep the meadow green year round without irrigation.
Halfway down the ranch road to the east is a double gate that leads through one of the best grazing meadows in California.

Neighbors have excellent wells with the water that has made Palomar famous. It wouldn't be complete without a stream running through. You'll also find a spring with running water flowing freely. Power and phone lines are close or you may choose to be off the grid with no electric bill to complain about. At night the moon rises over the center of valley and millions of stars light up the sky, offering a magical setting for the ultimate lifestyle.
The ranch is just a short half hour flight from most Southern California airports by helicopter.

The creek has a few large swimming and fishing holes and supplies abundant crystal clear pure water to the property and lakes below. Crossing the stream and continuing through the meadow there are beautiful oaks and elevated building sites with sunrise and sunset views.

This exceptional property is one of the best grazing pastures in California with many different types of native grasses, lupine, wildflowers and California poppies. The land is fully fenced and framed on the north by some beautiful oaks and bordered by the National Forest. Driving along the fence line, the photo to the right was taken looking east, down on the valley, with the neighboring Mendenhall Ranch off in the distance.
This property is zoned 'Agricultural Preserve' which gives you a tremendous savings on your taxes under the Williamson Act. The way it was subdivided decades ago does not include the limiting "Open Space" easements.

The photo on the left was taken from one of the several premiere building sights. This is a view that has been seldom seen. It looks to the north east, out, and over Barker Valley.
The top of this ridge has been brushed for building. A home on the ridge would enjoy panoramic views of our four seasons of drama on the Mountain.
